How much does SubjectsPlus cost?

Nothing, it's free! But of course, there will be staff time to a) install it, and b) populate it with subject guides, records, and (optionally) FAQs. And you will also need somewhere to host the files (i.e., a web server).

What if I don't have sufficient access to the campus web server?

You can always rent some space on a shared commercial host. Even the cheapest options generally have the necessary software (i.e., MySQL and PHP), and prices start at around 5 dollars a month, possibly with a domain thrown in.

Do I need to be a computer programmer to use SubjectsPlus?

No. At a minimum, you need someone who is comfortable opening and editing a couple of files, and following some instructions, to act as administrator. Basic familiarity with PHP and MySQL would be helpful (or, a willingness to learn).

How long does it take to set up?

If you are familiar with MySQL and PHP, you could have it all set up in 15 minutes. But it will probably take longer than that. And then you will need to spend some time getting the public pages "playing nicely" with the rest of your website--either just switching in your own header, or working more extensively with the CSS to match your site's look and feel. And then, your librarians will need to create your subject guides and other content.

What if I run into problems?

You can look for answers here on the wiki or ask a question of the Google group. Or search the Google group's archives, since certain problems turn up over and over.
